wings.

let's be honest here.

isn't this really what you visited my forge for?

the aztec wings have been a staple of my personal collection since i made them.  they go well with all my earthtone costumes.  actually, the green material draped underneath them is the cape i usually wear over them; it's translucent and drapes nicely over their shape.  i've always been fond of long, slender wing shapes like this.

these were freakin obnoxious to photograph.  they are also, admittedly, something of a challenge to wear.  turning around swiftly can be dangerous for those traveling with you.  also, doorways are occasionally... tricky.  they're also monstrously heavy after a while.  but on the upside, they're ever so pretty.

as you can see in this shot, the inner membrane is vaguely transparent.  one would attach this pair at the bracing bars to the left of the image, where the white ribbons are.

these are actually made of some leftover bits i had from a tree spirit costume i made for my father at one point.  i had all these twigs and branches lying around and decided to do something useful with them.  big fan of recycling, is the wingsmith.

i call these the zebra wings.  they're double-layered in the membranes. the rectangular shape between the wings is what i call the bracing bar; not only does it hold the two panes together as well as being a vehicle for more decorations, it's what will hold the wings steady against your back.

the wild hunter wings are perfect for the slightly more savage woodland faerie, or for a nice earthtone costume with touches of fun about it.  you might think of them as a slightly more evolved form of the aztec wings at the top of the page.  you can see more images of them here.

all of the wings pictured are single pairs, as you can see, but i can easily make double or even triple-pairs.  i hope to have a few more examples of the art up soon.  in the meantime, dream of glorious flights and envious glances at your next tir na nog gathering.

wingsmith out.
