chillin' in the apartment, nommin' homemade fudge and gingersnaps, music and videogames with friends.
it's the best weekend ever. come back on monday and buy some fanciness, but until then, party on kiddoes.

wild hunter wings.
i know i said i was going to make storm wings next, but i found a pale green pair of stockings in my ingredients box and they ate my brain.
the base is wrapped in leather and ribbon and embellished with some silk flowers i found in a bag in my closet. the cords around the wing bases are woven waxed leather.
there are also touches of gold paint along the whole pair: the flowers, the leather, the wings themselves; just to tie it all together.
the speckles are in the same metallic gold paint and look rather handsome if i do say so myself.
they can be mounted with backpack style ribbons with little effort, your choice of elastic or static. i personally prefer static cords, as they hold the wings more firmly; however they can be slightly more difficult to get into and out of.
i'll sell these to the right owner for $30.

wire zomg.
these have been in the works for a while, oh yes they have. and by in the works i mean sitting on my nightstand waiting for weeks for me to get around to photoing them ahahah. anyway, here they are.
all three are unique/one of a kind, just like anything else i produce, but i'm always open to attempting a copy of myself haha.
the froglizard (top) is about three inches long from tongue-tip to tail and is for sale @ $10. the tiny toad (center) is only an inch long and i will sell him for $4. the satyr in the tree (bottom) is perhaps seven inches tall and can be purchased for $18.
email me, comment me, whatever works.

paint something?
i think to myself at work, i should make a list of all my projects. and now it occurs to me, i should paint something. yes.
storm wings still brewing in my head, with the following catalystic colors/shapes:
but in the meantime i think i want to paint something. it has occurred to me that i have a perfectly good bodhran case in my closet that needs embellishment. maybe tomorrow night after work, i'll paint it.
or maybe i'll finally get off my bum and finish the logo for puca. it's astonishing to me that they put up with me and my infinite delays. haha, i love you guys.
does anybody know anything about winter gardening? i'm looking for frost-resistant, shade-loving plants for growing in containers. send me thoughts; also ask to buy things please.

november.
i hung my spoon chime today (finally). it looks pretty awesome out on my balcony; i'll post pictures at some point. it's getting windy out at night now so i'm anticipating some groovy spoon serenades in the evenings.
i'm also super excited that my chives and onions are starting to sprout (they're winter vegetables so i plant them now and then they are supposed to explode in the spring). it's been kinda warm for november the last week or so, which i think has helped. don't you love growing things? i've been squealing about my babies for days, it's like i just gave birth or something.
i've got a couple new wire sculptures that i'll photo up for my next post. i had to buy a new roll of wire recently; i ran out of my thin stuff, and home depot didn't have the gauge i wanted anyway, which was frustrating. i prefer 18 or 20 gauge--a little tougher than the 22 gauge i ended up buying. 22 or 25 gets a bit thin for sculpting, though it's nice for detail work. i'll make some more little sculptures with it so you can see what i mean.
in the meantime, i'm off to clean the bathroom or something.

spooooooon.
it is i, the wingsmith. i thought i would share with you a little project i undertook today. my first day off in a couple of weeks (that I haven't spent driving or visiting family members anyway) and i chose to spend it on the following.
it has a pretty nice sound, i think. i'll be hanging it in my patio as soon as i get the hardware for it. now that we're headed into what feels like a windier season for austin, it should be quite nice out there.
as always, email me if you want one.

new wings soon.
i think i have a new pair of wings growing in my head. i keep reaching for my pliers with itchy fingers and just holding them. (it's a bit creepy if you're not used to it.) i'm thinking perhaps a stormy pair. yes, the color purple is in my mind, and not simply because today seems to be purple day.
i shall likely have to go to a walmart soon, to buy stockings. i might also need more paint, particularly yellow. i bought the wrong shade last time and now i need a good golden-yellow refill.
yes, the storm image is building in my mind. off to find my wire.

oh god my head.
you'll note that the slideshow (oh so pretty) at the bottom of the page has some new shinies in it. naturally, these are the photos i promised you yesterday. i'd put them on their own shiny pages right now but i appear to have a pretty serious fever and i feel as though my head is going to topple off my shoulders at any moment now.
admittedly, this shoot isn't nearly so good as the last one. i'm still figuring out this whole 'lighting' concept in photography, so most of them were either too dark or too yellow. good thing i'm awesome at editing things on the computer, but there were several even i couldn't save. my apologies.
anyway, here's a few of my favorites.

camera located, for the win
as you can see, i have a couple of new pages set up. how exciting! soon my digital camera's battery will be fully charged; i expect to be posting images of the wings and beads tomorrow. until then, wander over to the wire and paint pages if you like, to see what i can do.
here's a couple of things to tide you over until the real deal starts arriving:

hammer hammer, tack tack
welcome to the wingsmith's forge, for all your whimsicality needs.
lost your wings in a freak aeroplane accident? acquire stylish prosthetics here at the wingsmith's forge. your neighbors will be so envious, they'll be tempted to throw themselves into the engines of passing jetplanes themselves.
born without wings in some silly 'freak of nature' type occurrence? overcome mother nature's nasty little bias. get your replacement wings here. that'll teach her.
the wingsmith will also be producing dozens of other fine products for all your folk art and fantasy needs:
i, the wingsmith, am ready and willing to produce to your specifications, however outlandish they may be. send me a design or an idea and i'll run into the wind with it, likely giggling like a maniac as i do so. the laws of physics shall be my plaything, logic my punchingbag.
i have succeeded at placing a slideshow. i consider this to be a great triumph, as it took me four days to do. i shall be the internet's mistress; all shall bow down to me.
more photos will be coming soon. i just need to find our digital camera. i know it's in here somewhere. i found all the hardware that goes with it; i suspect the camera itself may be in a suitcase in the closet. 'twill be an epic quest, i assure you. once i find it, photos of the wings and what sculptures i have on hand will go up alongside the case paintings i've already posted.
my next goal is to build all the pages this site will need to function. it will be a long and harrowing process; wish me luck.

- a wire sculpture will liven up an empty shelf or frighten a smug coworker when left on his dashboard, strategically placed to be staring intently at him as he gets into his car.
- case paintings, for the discerning musician with creativity in his soul but sadly burdened with a boring, plain black case.
- beadwork in all its forms, from necklaces to earrings and bracelets to funky dangly things that just look cool when you put them in windows or something.
- and, of course, the wings. single pairs, double pairs, triple pairs, with or without flowers, ribbons, painted designs; shoulder straps or tuck-into-shirt bars. gentlemen, do not let your masculinity stand in the way of acquiring these magnificent creations; designs exist for even the most aggressively male of personalities as well as the delicately feminine.
